Rest can feel like a moving target in the early months. A consistent, safer sleep space is one thing you can prepare for every nap and night.

On their back, for every sleep.

Place your baby on their back on a firm, flat mattress in their own clear cot or bassinet. Keep pillows, toys and loose bedding out of the sleeping space.

Close by, in their own space.

The NHS recommends keeping your baby’s cot in your room for the first six months. Avoid overheating and keep the sleeping environment smoke-free.

Take care of yourself, too.

Never fall asleep with your baby on a sofa or armchair. If you’re exhausted, ask someone you trust for help and talk to your healthcare professional about support.
